Asphalt pavements present a high fraction of the urban areas and contribute to the development of heat islands, which increases the temperature of cities leading to high cooling energy demand and human discomfort. The development of cool pavements can solve this issue. The application of solar reflective coating can cool the surface considerably, as suggested in several studies. However, the durability of the coating layer under mechanical loading and ultraviolet light exposure has not been investigated adequately to make this technology commercially viable. This project focuses on the development of a durable and cost-effective reflective coating that can comply with Australian standards.
